Frequently Asked Questions:
After being accepted in to the MFT Program, how do I begin working in the National Parks? A signup form is released to all approved participants of the MFT Program monthly. The form displays all available service opportunities for each day of a given month, including general service and any special event opportunities. Participants can fill out and submit the form, selecting which days and locations they would like to serve. A confirmation email is sent to the email address specified on the form, displaying which spots have been assigned to you.
What do I need to bring with me when I go out to serve through the MFT Program? All concession service in the National Parks requires specific authorization from National Park Service in the form of a placard. These documents are created by NPS and include specific information of the subconcessioner like license plate details, business name, etc. The document also contains important information on start times, directions to the locations and rules to be aware of. The authorization placards can be accessed through the dropbox link which is sent out to all approved participants of the MFT Program each Monday at 12pm - participants can access this link at any time.
What rules do I need to follow when serving in the National Parks? Since the National Parks are Federally owned property, there are many regulations and guidelines to be aware of when serving. Information on onsite guidelines can be found in the “Subconcessioner Onsite Expectations” document. Be sure to reference the other “Mobile Concession Inspection Documents” as well and abide by the direction of any NPS or RGI staff onsite to ensure you are in compliance with the rules of the MFT Program.
How do I serve in Special Events? Most special event opportunities will be included on the monthly service signup form, others will be notified by a service call conducted via email. Either the confirmation email you receive after signups or a confirmation response from the Event Services Coordinator will secure your participation in the event. A placard will be created and distributed accordingly.
There are different parameters set by the event hosts and restrictions from location/set up which may be reason in which subconcessioners do not receive a confirmation to serve at a special event - this is particularly true for large events like The National Cherry Blossom Festival and The Fourth of July Celebration. Because of the extremely tight restrictions and needs of these large events, there is not a signup process. Subconcessioners are invited to participate if they meet the certain criteria required.
